Can't shift from park

I've had the same problem with my 92 EXR for a few years and it has been getting progessively worse. Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the shift cable yourself. I've dismantled the console and played around with the cable connection to the shift lever but don't know what's involved at the transmission end of the cable.
the tranny part is real easy,,
remove the cover 3 12 mm bolts, this will expose the cable going into the tranny lever, remove the 10mm bolt holding the cable into the rod, lower the exh pipe, remove thwe heat shield ,
from inside the car, remove the center console, disconnect cable form the top and you can remove the cable
make sure to align the new cable properly at the top where the pin goes through
