Default Car key malfunction - lock/unlock buttons opening the trunk

Hello,
I have a 2014 LX automatic honda accord. Recently the key fob started malfunctioning, when I press the lock or unlock button on the fob the car trunk is opening. Door lock and unlock is no longer working with the key fob.
I have a spare key fob and it behaves the same.
Has anyone ever had this issue with their honda accord and know how to fix it?

Having the same issues on both keys eliminates the keys. Do the door lock/trunk controls inside the car work properly?

Yes, the controls inside the car are working as expected. It’s happening only when using the key fob.

The immobilizer on the steering column where you insert the key or have a push button start also has the antenna for the fob. That antenna uses the car's network to send a signal to the MICU to control the door locks/trunk. I'd suspect an issue with the immobilizer/antenna or the wiring based on your description.

You almost need a scanner that can read the signals from the immobilizer/antenna to be 100% sure this is the issue. Or an oscilloscope to see if that unit is sending out a strange digital signal. It is frustrating to troubleshoot modern cars with the specialized tools needed to troubleshoot.
