Hello,

My wife's car was broken in to and had the entire ignition ripped out. It sat for probably a year before we were able to afford repairs. Now, it won't pass emissions on inspection and we're pretty sure it has something to do with that. Any suggestions on how to clear the CO from the exhaust?

i highly doubt emission failure is from ignition switch replacement.

can you post your emission failure specs?

 

No, I'm not suggesting it's from the ignition. I'm suggesting that because it sat undriven for 18 mos., that probably had something to do with it. I don't know if I can find the emissions results but I will search.

I've heard that if a car sits for a long time, that will cause them to fail emissions tests. Is there any way to fix this?

well, i'd think bad gas can cause a problem(from sitting for so long). i'd start with giving it a few weeks of driving to empty and refill the tank a few times while using a fuel system cleaner.
