Default Cheap Coils?

Hi all, noob to the board but a HAH owner since 2009. I'm getting 4 bad coil codes and was wondering if anyone ever tried the cheapo coils on ebay? Maybe in hot FL, OEM or better is worth the extra $300...thoughts? Thnx!

What year accord are you driving? V6 or 4-cylinder? What codes are you getting?

I should have said more than HAH which means Honda Accord Hybrid, an '07.

The codes were pulled by my mech and he found '4 bad ones' so do them all. Also, time for plugs as well.

Do not do all of them, Honda diagnostics are notorious for reporting multiple misfires when there really is only one. Swap the coils around and track the misfire; that'll help identify which coil is bad.

Thanks loads, Ship. It shows 4 'bad' coils so I'll press my tech as to which/why. HE did say there were 9 codes in total and our IMA and CEL came on for about 150 miles and then vanished.

I would personally replace all of them even if only one is bad as it probably won't be long before others go, unless its not in the budget.

That's my thought. But to the OP, how bad could the cheapo coils be? I can't seem to find feedback online about them. Normally, I go for higher quality but we may sell soon and there's a considerable $ difference, like 125 to 400. Will do plugs then also.

Hmmm, I had a coil go on my Accord 20,000 miles ago (four were reported); so far, no recurrence of misfires. From my perspective, you are as likely to have a new coil fail as one which has been faithfully serving your engine for years/hundreds of thousands of miles.

My TSX suddenly started running rough with an immediate check engine light on I-10. I pulled over and used my bluetooth reader with my smart phone. Had misfires on cylinder 1 and 2. Cleared the codes and started the car. The code only came back for cylinder 1. Swapped the coil from 1 to 2, cleared the codes, started the car. Got a code for cylinder 2. I broke down near a Honda dealership, but they didn't have a coil. I just bought the coil from O'Reillys for around $90 vs $110 from the dealership. Haven't had a problem since.

If all of your coils were bad, your engine would run terrible, or it wouldn't run at all. Losing one coil made my car run horrible.

I'd recommend changing the spark plugs, clearing the codes, then see if any codes return. If multiple codes return, clear the code, then see if only one code returns.
