Clutch??? RPMS with no Power
Today was the first time I've taken this car out of the city on a trip. I found myself going up a hill ..actually a mountain (1500 ft). ANd my car felt like it could not get into gear. It was lagging BIG TIME. I was in third gear and my RPMS were at 3000 -400 and my car was not accelerating at the normal rate. I know I was going up hill, but this was not right, something was defintely wrong!!. I could smell burning, (not tires). Then when I was on a MUCH shorter inlcine...as in barely driving upwards, It was like I couldn't get my car to go. I would put in first - second, RPM would bounce right to 3000- 3500, then I would shift to third, RPMS would drop for a sec, then jump up to 3000 right away, without feeling like I had any power. WHen I got to Hawk mountain, I could smell the burning. No smoke, no overheating, but it smelled. On my way home. NOthing like this happened. Granted, I was traveling downhill...but??? I did notice, an have noticed that it really takes a lot for me to accelerate out through 1 to 3 rd gear.
What hell is going on with my lemon Honda??
CLutch slipping?
Fuel Filter?

I would have to agree with Jim......
do the clutch dump test..........go on a vacant lot, when car is in 3rd or 4th gear, accellarate. push and release the clutch pedal., if the rpm stay up a bit ,, you got a slipping clutch

Well, I tried the test. The Rpms seem to drop as soon as the hit clutch while I'm cruising in 4th and 5th. HOWEVER, all day yesterday, as I'm starting to move from 1st into 2nd, especially 2nd into 3rd..... when I shift into the gear, and give it gas, the RPMS race right up to 3500, i get no real power, then they drop and it begins to move again to the higher RPM as I get , what seems like, sluggish pickup.
Still the clutch? Please let me know. I want to be sure if I replace it
BTW ---
Called my local Philadelphia Honda dealer : 900+ (not inlcluding flywheel) for new clutch
Called my local mechanic: 375 (5 hr job).. and I told them I would bring a clutch kit (exedy= 125.00) = $500.00
Big time Price difference huh. WOW

that's actually a pretty good price for a clutch job.... and it sounds to me like a slipping clutch too.... the only other thing I can think is perhaps your master and/or slave clutch cylinder is having an issue but that's a long shot.....

if it was master or slave leaking ,, that would mean air in the system, which would mean hard time to get into gear ..contrary of what he is experiencing
Yeah. I was wrong. I was riding in 3rd today on my way to work. Did the clutch test. My tach needle rised a bit before dropping. Guess it's clutch time. SHEESH!! See ya later 500+ bucks.
thanks all
I think I'm going to go with the exedy clutch kit.
