Default coolant trouble

my honda accord lx 1999 ulev has used a gallon of coolant. it is leaking from underneath the belt shrouds near the front of the motor. I'd like some advice on what is up there that the coolant comes out of(the name of the part) and is this something I can do myself or would it be better suited for a shop(does it take specialty tools). I'm a good mechanic.

If "front" of motor is driver's side, then water pump is likely leaking by shaft or coolant crossover tube seal to water pump is leaking.

If water is draining from rear side of lower timing belt cover, it's likely the water pump shaft.

Water pump replacement is usually done w/ timing and balance shaft replacement job since access to water pump requires removal of timing and balance shaft belts.

You should be able to eyeball leak of crossover tube from rear of lower back side of water pump where tube connects. Pretty rare for this to leak.

A shop manual from automanualsource.com for your vehicle will help guide your work.

good luck
