Default CV Boot band broken

I have a 1999 Accord LX 4 Cyl with about 130000 miles. For the past several months I have noticed odd popping or clicking sounds when I make certain types of turns. So, this weekend I bought a hydraulic jack and some jack stands so I could have a look under the car myself for the first time. One of two things I noticed was that the band from the inner driver side cv boot axle appears to have been thrown off, and grease has been thrown from the boot all over the surrounding area.

Here are some pics:

I'm assuming that the resolution here is a fairly straightforward axle replacement, but I was just wondering if anyone here has any other thoughts.

I figure it's probably unrelated, but here is a link to another post I made today concerning what appears to me to be a separate issue, but just in case it isn't I'll post it here anyway: https://www.hondaaccordforum.com/for...ansaxle-50525/

CV axle replacement should fix your problem. This is a relativley simply task but does require some effort to break the axle retaining nut. Breakout torque is several hundred ft-lbs so a good air impact or good breaker bar w/ cheater pipe for added leverage are necessary. Do you plan to DIY? Read the DIY forum for additional guidance. Also check youtube for videos of this job. Some excellenet videos there.

I would recommend going w/ a high quality axle replacement based on my experience w/ poor quality of Autozone rebuilt axles. I bought Raxles which cost about twice as much but worked to fix the vibration under acceleration problem I had. There are other sources of quality axles beside Raxles, so do some research and decide.

good luck
