dipstick tube removal for timing belt
So I recently (yesterday) replaced my timing belt/water pump/pulleys... there was a moment of confusion when i got to the part about removing the oil dipstick tube...I didn't remove the tube just the dipstick...I guess I misread the manual... anyway everything is running great but I'm curious if I could have damaged something by not removing the tube itself instead of just the dipstick? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! 2004 ACCORD EX 3.0 V6 VTEC
I did my own timing belt too, and didn't see anything about removing the dipstick tube. I did see a timing belt video on an older Acura TL, and the dipstick tube had to be removed on that model. I guess the Haynes manual covers a lot of different models, so they include steps for all of them. I used the Honda factory manual.
Did you have any trouble getting the crank pulley bolt off? It seems to be the biggest problem for most shade-tree guys like us.

I have a 03 MDX w/ 3.5L V6 and did timing belt 3 yrs ago. No dipstick removal was req'd.
Yes, it is a challenge to remove V6 or 4-cyl crankshaft pulley bolt. For the MDX, I used 500+ ft-lb ingersol rand 1/2" air impact and 5 mins or so of propane heat on bolt head. Spun off easily. This was after trying manual method (breaker bar on restraint tool and 2nd breaker bar w/ cheater pipe) and straight air impacting.
good luck

Yes I had one helluva time getting that stinkin bolt off. I ended up renting the removal tool from honda for 30 dollars because a strap wrench wasnt working. That plus a 5 foot breaker bar and some elbow grease. I also put the engine mount back in for the bolt removal because there was a whole lot of engine flex when trying to remove it. I had an impact gun but it wasn't doing the trick so I just ended up doing it the old fashioned way. Im just glad it all worked out because the quote from honda was 1300 for everything I did and I was able to pickup the kit, coolant, and rent that tool all for 230.
