Default 2008 Sedan V4 - tube near transmission dipstick?

Recently checked the transmission fluid on my 2008 V4 Sedan, and I noticed an open tube right next to the transmission dipstick.

It looks like a tube for a dipstick, but there's no dipstick in it, and I don't like seeing open tubes extending down into my transmission.

What is that, and should it be open?

That's the vent tube. You're probably missing the breather cap if it is uncovered. Part # 3 in diagram.

Btw: Your 4 cylinder is an I4 engine.

FWIW, there's no such a thing as a 2008 V4 Sedan, however, there is such a thing as a 2008 Sedan with an I4 style engine.

Thanks guys - both for the part & description of the breather cap, and for the correction on the engine type. I really appreciate your help!
