The car should be sitting on level ground with the engine off when checking the oil and trans fluid levels.

Yeah, you really need to add fluid through that dipstick hole. A narrow funnel is a nice tool for that job!

Most non-Honda cars check auto tranny oil when it's warmed up & idling. Honda is pretty unique for auto trannys. Warm up the car, shut the engine off, then check it. Says so in your owner's manual.

Check it properly then add fluid only if you need to.

a couple of things.........first of all i gather car is a 99 is it an I4 or V6 ??.........if it is I4 you add fluid from the dipstick..........if it is a v6,, you need to remove the 17mm plug that sits on top of tranny and add fluid from there...the dipstick tube is way too small

second,, just for your future reference CHIOVNIDCA ,, is very knowledgable when it comes to Hondas so you can rely on his suggestions , and like other members said.......

yes you do chk the fluid with engine OFF,, on a level surface ......Now if it is low , I would not just add fluid , you got to find out the reason why it is low.........have you checked for leaks??

V6 will not show ANY fluid on dipstick when running. Like the others stated, check fluid with engine off and car on level gground

my opinion for whatever is worth............

find out why tranny fluid is low,is there a leak ??? if leak repair as needed .......If no leaks , I would not add fluid to dirty fluid
i would drain the tranny and put 3 qts of new fluid in there........buy the fluid at Honda Dealer use only ATF-Z1
