Default Directions for replacing front axle on 1993 Accord

No way we can swing the money needed to have our mechanic change the drivers side front axle and tighten the ball joints. Are there any DETAILED directions anywhere so hubby can look to see if he can do this himself? I've been looking and am coming up blank. A video would be most awesome.

THanks!!

Oh.. this is a 1993 Honda Accord 5 speed.

Go on youtube and search "changing honda accord axle". The first 5 or 6 results all look good.

Basically you undo the axle nut, break the lower ball joint, use a large screw driver or pry bar to pry the axle out of the differential(depending on if its driver side or passenger side you may need to remove the 3 bolts on the half shaft), replace seal on transmission. Do steps in reverse order, then refill the transmission fluid.

That is the brief explanation on how.

The only thing that may be difficult is without an impact gun it can be difficult to tighten the bolt on the ball joint.

Thanks. Just watched a few. Looks like it's beyond our realm of ability. We don't have an impact wrench for one. Phewie.

I wouldn't expect a mechanic to charge very much to replace it. They should easily be able to replace it in less than an hour.

Really? My quote was over $800 for left axle, tighten ball joint on left side and alignment. Is that too much??

The axle itself is only $50-80. Then an hour or so to install plus transmission fluid. I would expect this job to be $150-200 plus maybe $100-150 to have an alignment done. I would find a new mechanic.
