Default Donut on driveshaft?

I replaced the right driveshaft on my 2005 Accord EX, but there was a rubber "donut" about halfway along the original that wasn't on the replacement. Can someone tell me what it's for and whether I can get along without it on the replacement shaft?

Can you move it over? That's to dampen vibrations of the shaft while you're driving. Without it, you might feel like a wheel is out-of-balance.

This belongs in General Tech so I'll move it.

I can't move the damper without taking the whole driveshaft assembly apart becuase it's between the CV joints, and they are sealed with a special band around the boot on the center shaft. Are you aware of a replacement part that can go on without disassembling the band, boot and CV joint?

I don't know where you can get a split one. I would have figured it would come on the new axle.
