EGR valve and distributor???
I have a 98 4 cylinder Accord vtec with 274,000 miles. After driving 220 miles with no problem I stopped for about 10 minutes. When I started the car back up to drive 1 mile to a friends house it ran rough and did so on the drive back. The next morning I started it a few times to see if I could figure out what was wrong. It ran rough then died and wouldn't start again. I took it to a shop and the codes indicated the EGR valve was bad and the computer wasn't receiving any signal from the distributor. The tech said I also needed a new distributor. It just seemed unlikely to me that the EGR valve and the distributor would suddenly go at the same time. Any ideas or opinions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If he told you the code numbers (P1234) we'd be a little better off. But it sounds like too much of a coincidence.
Check the wiring plug at the distributor for loose/dirty/corroded or stuff like that.
Earlier 4-cyl cars had EGR passages that get plugged up with carbon, but I thought(?) by 1998 that was less likely. Still, look for stuff in the DIY section about EGR cleaning.
This belongs in General Tech, so I'll move it. If it turns into a detailed procedure write-up I can move it back.
