Unhappy First honda, already stuck 1993 accord 2.2

This is the first honda for us and it is a 1993 accord 2.2, I Picked it up for my daughter last week and it idled at 100rpm, I have cleaned and adjusted the IACV, FITV and TB (replaced the gasket as well),the EGR plugs are new and seem to have been removed and replaced, I assume that the ports were cleaned. I also have checked for vacuum leaks w/carb cleaner over every vac source including the intake. Topped off and burped the cooling system 3 times, unplugged the IACV while running and the idle drops but surges quickly @2 times per second only rising 100-200 rpm.

Still have the surging idle after cleaning TB, IACV, FIV, EGR ports and the EGR, someone said to pinch off the TB vac line and see if it dies, I pinched off the TB vac line and it did die. Is that important? I decided to order another IACV (off eBay, cheap) and it should be here in a couple of days, I hope it works. I cant find any vac leaks, sprayed C Cleaner everywhere with no change.

Welcome to HAF.....I'm going to move this to Gen Tech as it doesn't really fit in the New Member Area.

On the 93 there is an air boost valve on the drivers end of the tb that needs to be checked.....plus be sure the PCV valve is seated all the way and that the hose from it the the TB is not broken

I checked the boost valve and it holds vac, the diaphragm is good, the PVC is new as well as the hose.

Hmmmm they have fast idle valve on a Gen 4? Maby it needs screwed back in. Sometimes they come unscrewed on the Gen 5s and cause vacume leaks which cause alot of idle problems

I had already snugged it down with no affect.

If the idle is 100, you are reading rpm gauge incorrectly. RPM of 100 is unlikely as engine should not idle at 100 rpm. The 1st gauge mark is 500 rpm. Idle near 500 will be unsteady and usually accompanied by vibration.

Idle should be about 600 rpm w/ IACV unplugged. If not, the air bypass screw (not throttle stop screw!) needs to be opened (top of throttle body inlet) to achieve 600 rpm. W/ this adjusted, the rpm should stablize about 750-800 rpm. If not, I would check that IACV is functioning (apply 12V and ground to connector to see if valve moves (must remove to observe). IACV could be stuck closed.

good luck

Apparently I am mistaken about the idle, but it was barely running. The air bypass screw,,,,is that the one on the left top side of the TB, if so I could not get it to move and was afraid of messing up the slot in it as it is very shallow. I have an IACV coming in a couple of days and will replace it, I hope it works. I will remove it and check for operation.

Yes, air bypass screw is near top of throttle body entrance. The slot is shallow, but screw shouldn't be hard to turn.

good luck

I had a '93, now gone to my son. Currently driving a '92. both 5 spd., both roughly 200K miles.

Idle speed is 750 for both. Neither would have idled at 100 rpm, would die @ ~ 500 my guess.

The '93 had muchly fluctuating idle, maybe up to 2200, as it warmed up for about 45 seconds, then settled down.
'92 much less fluctuation. does the idle fluctuation go away as car warms up?

Just to let you know your car has company.

btw, welcome
