Flashing D4 and P1753

RE: Flashing D4 and P1753
Well still working on the issue, I don't think it is anything loose because it is intermittent and only happens when I've been driving for awhile. Both solenoid conns look tight and they must be operating because it usually works. That may only leave a PCM issue but the dang HAYNES manual has so many disclaimers and warnings about removing I'm hesitant to do it! Like disconnecting all airbad stuff, etc.

6th gens have a PCU .... ECU + TCU
If the solenoids or connections were at fault, manual gear selection would not work properly either. I-m thinking PCU or 6th gen tranny death. VSS would affect the dash guages.

RE: Flashing D4 and P1753
I just checked proper operation of the lock up and the 2 shift control solenoids.
What can I check on the PCU? Can I remove it safely? Also, what is VSS? Thanks!
I guess I'm afraid to take it somewhere because I don't want them to say in 5 mins "you need a new tranny". At that point the car will have to sit in the driveway. I'd rather buy another car then drop 3k for a tranny.

RE: Flashing D4 and P1753
Took it to an AAMCO and with that code they said they couldn't do a free diagnostic on it, he said it may be a "clutch something or other heating up issue", but sometimes I have the issue as soon as I start the car in the morning. He said at least 2 hours paid troubleshooting to work on the issue and do voltage checks etc.
Not ready to give in yet but maybe I should just let a professional take over.
Anybody here removed the PCM before?

Removing the PCM is a PITA because of dismantling the console. After disconnecting the battery, Ive unplugged the wiring harnesses from my 98(troubleshooting). No problem at all, nothing to be afraid of. Only I didnt have to go the next step & dismantle the console & actually remove the mounting brackets for the PCM.

Flashing D4 and P1753
Thanks ahead of time for anyone that can help!
I've had the "Maint Reqd" light on for a bit and figured it was due to a exhaust cat issue I had repaced and just needed to be reset. Today, I went over a small speed bump at a very low speed and when I hit the throttle nothing happened. The "D4" was flashing. I shifted into 1st and I could move fine. It seemed that I could manually shift fine but the car would not auto shift. I got home to do some research and decided to head to Autozone. I got in the car and travelled about a mile, the "D4" was not flashing and the car auto shifted fine. At Autozone, they pulled the "P1753" code out and it did not clear. When I started the car to drive away, the "D4" light was back on and I had to manually shift.
I don't think this is a physical tranny problem or I would not be able to manually shift or it would be constant. I've read it could be a speed sensor OR AT control unit. Is there anyway to pinpoint exactly what the issue is so I'm not buying 3 diff $100 parts? Thanks for your time!

Actually my car is doing the exact same thing but all I have is 2ND and 3rd gear I also have to shift manually d4 always flashes but other than that the transmission works fine no slippage and no metal shavings in the fluid. P1753 is the correct code and I completely agree that it is the shift solenoids. Just concurring with the topic of discussion. Ty
