Fluid Changes
Speaking of fluid changes, does anyone have a link to the proper procedure for changing/flushing the power steering fluid? I have looked online and found several different ways to do it -- none of them were specifically for the Accord, though. I'm a little scared I'll do it wrong. Thanks.
On my 97 Accord I changed the power steering fluid myself. Just took a turkey baster and sucked as much fluid as I could out of the reservoir. Refilled and drove the car for a few days and repeated the procedure. Might not get all the fluid out but it worked for me, and only cost me 15.00 for 2 bottles of lucas PS fluid/conditioner.
Lift the front of the car and support it really solid with the wheels off the ground.
There's usually a "cooler" for the PS fluid, it's like a steel tube running once over & back in front of the radiator. Find a rubber-hose connection to that & unhook it. Be prepared for fluid to pour out.
Without running the engine, turn the steering back & forth lock-to-lock a few times. More fluid will come out of that open connection. It can be a mess.
Remove the reservoir & clean it out - soap & warm water will work. There's a fine mesh screen down low in the reservoir; you don't want that blocked with crud. Dry it COMPLETELY.
Hook it back up, re-connect that other line, and fill the reservoir kinda high. Start the engine, immediately run the steering back & forth, & turn off the engine.
Refill the reservoir, because it will have been sucked out. Probably there's some foaming of the fluid, you can wait for that to settle.
Repeat running the engine, steering, & filling. Probably takes a few times of doing that before the foam settles and you can get it all the way filled.

Very easy to do a drain and fill of the radiator coolant. It has a plastic drain plug (petcock) that you can turn by hand to loosen, don't have to remove the plug as there is a drain hole. Sometimes it may be a little tight, if so then you can use a pair of pliers to loosen. You will have to purge the system of most air pockets afterwards. IIRC, instructions should actually be in your owner's manual. If you want, I can post the instructions.
