gear shift stuck in park. cant start
1998 accord, 4 cylinder automatic
Will not start, very difficult to shift out of park, when it does shift, 4th gear is lit up in green and P is lit up red, or then they both will switch color. Brake lights work but I did not try the horn. Will later today when I go by it.
Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on what the problem could be and how to fit it
Thank you for your attention.

There is a shift interlock in the console gear selector mechanism which may be loose or shifted out of adjustment preventing the shift lock solenoid from releasing completely. You should be able to hear the solenoid movement when you step on the brake pedal (engine off).
Fix is to remove console and adjust shift lock solenoid mechanism per shop manual. You may be able to find use description from some of the download manuals from earlier model years.
good luck
