Head gasket? 1995 Accord
My car overheated and I just found and fixed the coolant leak which was the heater hose at the block but something is not right. If I crank the engine with the radiator cap off coolant will spray everywhere. It doesn’t smoke or have any sighs of water in the oil but will overheat if left to idle for a long time over an hour. It also loses antifreeze. It has been sitting for a year and I wonder if the head gasket is blown. I have to clean off the spark plugs to get it started then after it warms up starts fine.
If you coolant is getting over pressurized when running it can be a few different things. A blown head gasket is just one.
Remove the plugs, if 2 are dirty and the others spotless then yeah, your HG is toast.
Going back to the coolant pressure. If the engine is cold and it is gushing out like that that is a clear sign of a failed HG. The compression pressure has found a weak point and pushed its way into the coolant passages. Also check your motor oil dip stick, if it is any sort of brown, especially tan it is definitely toast and do not drive it or you risk bearing damage.
