ORIGINAL: HondatechAV6

base idle speed should be 550rpm(+/-50rpm)
a sudden cut off of both ports should stall the engine in my experience.
I'll accept your numbers. Just double checked the specs on my motor (f22A9) and idle is supposed to be 770 +/- 50. Mine doesn't idle that high though, more like 700 and quite smooth. Pulling the IACV connector instantly closes the valve off (so I understand), and on my car at least this doesn't cause it to stall or even nearly stall, though the rpm does drop slightly (should adjust that base idle, but have better things to do!).

oh, base idle = 550rpm +/- 50 rpm. this means the car is fully warmed up, shut it off, iacv is disconnected prior to starting the car, then idle(in a perfect world) would be this number.

now some usless tech info:

if it's not you need to adjust the base idle screw assuming the fast idle valve isn't stuck open for some reason or another and no other leaks.

after adjusting you reconnect the iacv and reset the ecu.

now on start up after a minute or two of running(with the engine already hot) the idle speed should stabilize on 700rpm +/- 50rpm.

now turn on the headlights for a minute or two, idle should now be 770rpm +/- 50rpm.

in gear idle should be 770rpm +/- 50rpm, as well as with the a/c on.
