Dimming suggests poor connections.

Bad starter and/or battery connections? Check all connections carefully and secure.

Is the starter solenoid "clicking"? If not, then check for voltage from keyswitch to starter solenoid (small wire to solenoid). If no voltage, a keyswitch problem is likely. If it's clicking, but no starter engagement, the internal solenoid contacts may be worn preventing starter engagement. New contacts, new solenoid, or new starter may be necessary.

good luck

`Thanks for that have checked and its just dimming no clicks, what is strange tho when i put the earth strap back it appears to connect to the gearbox only not gbox and car body so just wondering how its getting earth as all the mountings are rubber although i did run a jump lead from the strap to body and still the same so probably not that.

If solenoid is not "throwing", then check small wire to solenoid for 12V when keyswitch turned to Start position. If 12V is not present, keyswitch may be problem, if 12V is present the solenoid is defective.

good luck
