Default How to and When change the ATF on a 06 Accord EX 4 cyl?

When and how do you change the Automatic Transmission Fluid on a 4 cyl 2006 Honda Accord, if you have photos that would be great. What kind of filter if any does the car require. ATF oil, what kind (I hear it has to be Honda brand)? Step by step instructions would be very helpful. What are the mfg recommended intravals for the change, thank you.

The manual is the best place to find this info. Off hand, I think it's either every 12k miles or 30k...

We have plenty of instructions on here, if you want to use my search below.

It just involves draing the fluid out through the 3/8" drive drain hold and then filling it through the dipstick hole, sort of like an oil change. There isn't a serviceable filter on the transmission, so don't worry about that part.

And yes, the fluid must be replaced with Honda ATF-Z1 found at the Honda dealer for about $6/quart.

Do not flush the transmission though.

The drain plug has a 3/8" square hole in it, amazingly a 3/8" breaker bar will fit right into it.
Change the fluid more often than the 'new' service schedule calls out, every 30-45k miles, would be my suggestion.
3 qts Honda Z-1 ATF. refill thru the dipstick hole.
The reason the service schedule was changed was to show lower main't costs for a better JD Powers rating. The rating is based on the first 100k miles VS main't costs
Also the reason the T-belt replacemant was changed to 105k miles.
