Default Inner CV joint help

My dad has a 97 Accord V6 his lower ball joint popped out and his wheel fell off. He has replaced the balljoint but the inner cv joint came disconnected from the axle. Now I'm not near the car so this is all has been told over the phone.

What he is wondering is how/if he can re-insert the axle back into the joint.

What hold the joint to the axle? Just pressure and band clamp?

Thanks for the help I'm not familiar with Honda's or axles.

CV axle could have been damaged (particularly boots) by this experience. Make sure it's in good shape to reinstall.

CV axle shaft is retained by a snap ring at the end of the shaft. Most repair manuals say to replace, but I've had problems w/ new snap rings preventing engagement. I usually throughly clean the shaft groove and lightly lube the snap ring w/grease. It will also help to wipe the receiving groove in the differential (tooth brush) to clean and grease/rust from groove.

Push axle firmly w/ some force/velocity if possible to drive into place. You should hear a comforting "snap" or click.

good luck

Cool thanks for the quick reply. Ideally we would replace the axle, but cash is tight right now.

There's spring clips to hold the tripod bearings onto the inboard end of the driveshaft, but nothing really to hold the whole thing from coming OUT of the inner driver (#6,7).

I wouldn't be surprised if the OUTER CV joint was damaged by over-flexing when the balljoint broke. Plus damage to the tripod bearing as it's dragged across the road. Just to warn you that the axle might be screwed up.
