Default Installing the door latch on my 1999 Accord

The door latch on my Honda Accord is broken. I want to replce it. I am thinking the window and the metal window track need to come out. Anyone know how this is done? Do I roll the window down into the track first, or do I do it with the window up? Do I need to take the rubber off the top up the door (the rubber the window goes up and down through)? Haow many screws/bolts are needed to take the track out? I appreciate your help in advance. PS, this is a 6 cylinder auto window car if that helps Rob

Actually,I am referring tothe mechanism inside the door that locks onto the post (the one that unhinges when the handle is lifted).A little background. I had been unable to open my door from inside or out. I was able to get off the interior door panel and release the latch-- basically by breaking the thing. Anyway, I need to replace it with the new one I bought. It doesn't seem possible to get the old one out without removing the track the window sits in. Hopefully, that clarifys lol. Let me know what you think Thanks

I'm still not sure after reading your post, but if you're referring to the primary door latch assy, don't attempt this w/o a Honda Shop Manual. I don't have one for your model but the basic procedure is remove door panel, plastic cover, outside door handle, and remove latch assy. It is not an easy job and manual guidance is essential.

good luck

The window can stay in. The rear track has 1 bolt and will come out. Easy job.

I did manage to get the back track off. No
sweat. It seems I now have one last hurdle. The rod
that goes from the latch to the door handle
screws into a little brass thing. This brass thing
has a little ball on the end of it that is
connected to an arm on the door handle. Whith everything
connected, there is no way to unscrew the rod
from the brass thing (This could only be done if
the latch and door handle were both out of the
car).

My question is do I somehow disconnect the brass
thing from the arm of the door handle, or do I
need to take the door handle out of the car with
the latch and then disassemble? I am worried about
putting too much force on the arm of the door
handle and breaking it. Please advise. Thanks, Rob

Just to clarrify, you don't need todetach the door handle, right? I wasn't sure what you were refering to when you said just pry it off. Thanks again for bringing a rookie up to speed!
