I guess there is a cable? The hot/cold control feels like it's difficult to turn and will only do heat, now... Where can I access the thing that changes it back to cold?? I'd like to set it by hand and just leave it on cold.... thanks!!!

 

Look on the firewall almost in the middle but on the passenger side.

 

I took the glove box out and was able to get to some little thing I can't see... followed the cable to that, and that did it

Then, I used a coat hanger to adjust the heater control valve but I don't think that was necessary

 

You should check the valve and cable from the engine compartment. See that the cable is attached properly. See this link, which should be similar to your model year:
