Odd Shake when driving
I have a 199310th anniv. 118,000 miles. Over the past couple of years when driving ant any speed the enigine/front end will shake & shudder off and on, not constant or anything. If you let off or give it gas it will quit doing it. The plugs and cap & rotor are new less than a few thousand miles and were changed to see if that was it, no luck. Anyone else have an idea!!

my 92 EX shakes at about 80-85. always done it. i heard that its just one of those things that 4bangers do at that rpm, but im not sure if my sources are correct. nothing has gone wrong with my car. i got about 220k miles.

No, not the tires, could be vac line, if feels like either the engine, or tranny, or maybe the rack, which was replaced some 40,000 miles ago,due to slack or somthing according to the dealer. it has puzzled me for the longest time, because it is so intermitent.

RE: Odd Shake when driving
i'm leaning toward an egr problem. this can be intermittent or very consistant. i'm leaning toward pluged egr ports. since cylinder 1 is farthest from the egr valve it will clogg up last. so cyl. 4 cloggs, then 3, then 2, then 1. typically you'll get a misfire when on 1 when it's very bad. so i'd guess cyl 4 3 and possibly 2 have restricted ports.
in addition, this problem should usually only happen on light acceleration between 1500-2000 rpm.
to diagnose this, with the engine running apply 10" vacuum to the egr valve vacuum port. the engine should die. if it doesn't, get ready to clean!
to clean the egr ports(6 in total)you need to drill into them, tap them, install a bolt, use a mini slide hammer to remove them, and then clean the port, install new caps and replace the egr valve.
have fun!!
here i'd suspect unbalanced tires or one or both balancer shaft timing being off. it depends on the vibration. it should be silky smooth.
