So i've decided to steer away from the dealership to a shop in Houston called m power auto specialist because of the dealership charged so much for maintenance service. I'm planning to drop off my car this tuesday and I have 2 questions:
1) they used castrol oil instead of pennzoil (which my honda dealership use), is castrol better than pennzoil?
2) i'm planning to buy honda's brake fluid for the flush but i don't know how much to get. i've only bought one 12 fl. oz. container so far. Do i need to buy more?

 

Personally, I'm about to get flamed or start a debate.

Engine oil and brake fluid are not something, IMO, that have to come from the dealer.

Oil, we all have our favorite brand....as long as it is the proper weight and proper rating you will be fine.

Brake fluid the same, proper rating (DOT 3 or 4-see owners manual - 3 I think for your car, even though I don't know the year) and you will be fine.

How much, ?, def more than a pint. I think I went through well over a quart last time I did a complete flush.....of course I use Newton to change/bleed my brakes so there might have been a bit of waste in my method.....sipping coffee too long while waiting for the fluid to turn clear

EDIT: My ref to Newton is because I gravity bleed my brakes, too hard to find a helper.

 

in the big picture, oil "betterness" perception is dependent on how much the company spends on advertizing.

Castrol spends about as much as Pennzoil, so it's a comparable grade.
I'd feel good about the change and go for it.

 

I have always used Castrol GTX in my cars and motorcycles for over 30 years. Never an issue and always changed between 2500 and 3000 miles.

 

PLEASE don't let this turn into a debate on oil pref....on topic.

Okay, thanks for the input guys. Just to make sure i'll give the guys at the shop a call to see how much brake fluid they need before i drop off my car.
