Default oil filtersare Honda's better?

I heard from a friend who heard it from his dealer that unlike other oil filters, Honda filters keep the oil system pressurized even after the car is off, so that when you turn it on, the engine parts have the oil they need from the instant the car starts. I can't figure out how this would work. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

They are talking about an anti-drain back valve (check valve) that prevents oil from draining from filter when engine is shut down. This allows oil pressure to rise faster when engine is restarted. I think all oil filters sold today have anti-drainback valves. All I've bought in last few years for my vehicles have them.

I'm sure Honda filters are fine filters, but are they better than Walmart SuperTech oil filters? I doubt it. Still if it provides peace of mind, it's cheap enough insurance.

Check website bobistheoilguy.com for more discussion about oil filters than anyone could possibly want.

good luck

I have never used anything other than a "regular" oil filter from the store. I have never had any problems and my accord has very high miles. The key is regular oil changes with oil filter change.

I agree with Texas, the filter anti-drainback valve keeps the filter full and allows oil pressure to build up quicker when the engine is started.

I personally use Honda filters, but there are many types and I am sure some good alternates to the Honda filter.

I recently read on a blog or something an article in which they cut open a bunch of different oil filters... most of the cheaper ones have plastic check valves (aka anti-drain back or one-way) and the nicer ones have stamped steel valves with a rubber gasket.

Use a purolator, mobil 1, STP, or Bosch filter. they are all made the exact same way and have the high quality drainback vavles. aside from that personal preference just DON'T use a Fram
