Default Oil pan leak?

2001 Accord, 4 cyl, 5 speed.

While under the car today, changing oil and trying to repair heat shield (see other post for that one), I noticed oil residue under the car (there as a just a little before, now there is more. The car hasn't been leaking any oil (i.e. no spots on the driveway). I also noticed that where the bolts for the oil pan go in there is a "glaze" of oil almost all the way across. There doesn't seem to be any oil coming from above as I don't see any signs of leakage.

Could this just be something simple like an oil pan gasket that needs replacing?

You're almost right, except 2001 4-cyl doesn't have an oil pan gasket. The aluminum oil pan uses HondaBond (Permatex Ultra-Grey RTV) all around the bolted edge. There's no gasket.

You'll have to un-do the exhaust pipe under the pan, so think about new gaskets for THAT piping too.
