Oil Reminder System

Oil Reminder System
I use synthetic oil and at my last oil change they said to change the oil again at 19,400 miles. Well when I hit 19,400 miles I still had 5% left of oil life. My question is, is it possible to set the reminder system for sythetic? Or is it telling me I still have 5% oil life for regular oil, meaning I don't have to change my oil yet? I did make a road trip of about 800-1000 highway miles. I only ask b/c I really don't have the funds to change my oil for another week.

RE: Oil Reminder System
When was the last oil change? Milage? What kind of synthetic? A week shouldn't hurt unless our car is acting weird from seriously neglecting the oil change. If yor doing another 1000 mile trip, do the oil change first. As for the oil life monitor, I don't have it so am not sure of what it bases oil life on.

RE: Oil Reminder System
The book says the mileage minder is tied to the number of engine revolutions..It also states if you use syn oil you still have to change the oil at the mileage minders rate..With that said you can put 10k on Mobil 1 with no problems your 1/2 that at this post..If you don't follow the minder timing & have any engine issues you could be in for a warranty fight, BUT Honda would have to prove that the problem was a oil related issue. still a hassle [:-] I've been running Mobil 1 in everything I own over 15 years & I change it at 12 to 15 K...

RE: Oil Reminder System
I do a whole lot of driving and I only have a 35,000 mile warrenty. I bought the car used in November with 6,000 miles, and I now have 19,800. So my warrenty is going to be up soon anyways. Last time I changed my oil the reminder system was at -300%, and it had only been 5000k miles since the last oil change. Now I have a little more then 5000 miles and the reminder system says it has 0%.

RE: Oil Reminder System
Well, by now you are only a few days from your oil change and I don't expect that your car is misbehaving! 6k on synthetic isn't going to ruin your car nor will 4k on natural oil. You just shouldn't make a habit of exceeding your oil change intervals. If I were you, considering the milage that you drive, I'd switch to Amsoil Series 2000 or XL7500 and nano filters to reduce oil changes to twice a year.
