Default Oil Reminder System

[align=left]I have been told by a few members on here that the oil reminder system on 06-07 7th gens can't be set to synthetic oil. Well this is confusing me because it seems that it can be, because its going by my 5000 mile changes. In other words, my next oil change is at 29,890 miles, currently I have 29,000 miles. I had my oil changed at 24,890 and my oil reminder system reset at that time. Well my oil reminder system says I have 20% oil left after 4,000 miles from the last oil change. My last couple of changes were like this as well. However my first time putting in synthetic I took the reminder system down to like -%400 before I reached 5,000 miles. So the system can be set to synthetic or is something weird going on?

I'm not worried at all, I go by the mileage not the minder system. Just trying to get this info out there because everyone believes it can't be when I believe it can. When I change my oil I'll ask the guy who resets it.

As I understand it the Oil Minder is not capable of being set to a specific oil. The reason you may get different oil life from oil change to oil change is that the minder is supposed to take engine condition, driving habits (speed etc), heat and other factors into account and give you a expected remainder of oil life. This is why one time you may get 4500 mile from a oil change and 5000 on another.
As stated earlier a conservative OCI is probably a better way to keep your engine in good shape.
