That's the one. The details I don't remember is what you measure exactly, and what's the pass/fail length on that measurement. It's all in the factory service manual (which I sold after we sold that car).

Another thing to worry about, is whether the chain guides can come loose or come apart??? I don't remember if that's a possible reason for the rattle.

UPDATE:
I ran an OBD2 test and the following codes came up P1009, P2646 P0011 (2 times).
I bought a new camshaft position sensor, changed the oil, changed oil filter and air filter. had a friend help me with it. This immediately changed my power issue, i drove several miles with no loss in power, amazing.

The radio still doesn't function and i can't figure out why it isn't unless the suggestion is to take it off and see why it flows in and out (although it hasn't had sound in almost 3 weeks now).

I plan to replace the spark plugs next week.

Thanks for listening

Maybe autozone can clear the codes for you. Definitely recheck the codes if the check engine light turns on or the noise returns.

all those codes are related to a VTEC system malfunction and/or low or dirty engine oil.

none are related to the CMP sensor. are you sure that is what you replaced?

sometimes a fresh oil and filter change is all it takes.

@Dr. Drivability; i should have been more specific: The CMP sensor was the first error code and advanced auto parts said they had it in stock, the other four codes were as you said VTEC system malfunction, they also said that was a dealer only object.

However, with the CMP change and the oil change, it is running nicely. i just don't know what to do about the lack of a working radio at this point
