Default problem re-installing right axle halfshaft

hi, i have a 1990 honda accord ex automatic without ABS. after a few problems removing ball joints and other things, i managed to remove my CV halfshafts for replacement. they were completely shot. i reinstalled the driver's side with no problem. however, the passenger side axle will not slide in all the way no matter what I do. it is hitting something and im not sure what. there is nothing in the way, i can feel all the way back into the transmission where it goes into. the axle goes in barely enough to actually turn the other axle, but is completely stopped after that. i've tried tapping on it, jiggling it, my raw human force, but no good results. any suggestions? any help is REALLY REALLY appreciated

i had that problem when i replaced my clutch, but my friend sat there and just used momentum to ram it into place (also, make sure the threads are lines up on the driveshaft and midshaft)
