Problems With My Car...

haha... the absolute worst case senario...
okay... one last thing and then i think the problems with my car are answered and now its up to me to come up with enough motivation to fix them...
my clutch is going. simply put, 120k miles and original clutch... I have a stage 1 racing clutch (pressure plate, clutch and throwout bearing) and Im wondering if i should attempt the install... or pay the mechanics shop down the street 300 bucks to install it... i have a friend who, like me, knows some stuff about cars (mostly facts) haha... what you get from reading and not a whole lot of hands on work...
The only engine work ive done is replace spark plugs, replace injectors (with my dads help), replace starter, oil change (filter too!) and i installed my cat back, wich i assume isn't that difficult...
think i should go for it? or take the lazy route?
P.S. I have my sisters '91 sentra i can drive whilst im working on my car...

If you don't have any experiance with complex machinery, don't start on your transmission. $300 doesn't sound like a bad price, actually sounds cheap to me, but I might be overestimating the job.

yea, my buddy is coming over now and we're gonna see if we can get the transmission off, like if we can get to all the bolts and stuff. I think im going to attempt it.
I just went to Brown Honda to buy a front grill for my car (which had to be ordered) heh, but i got one of the mechanics there to take a loot at my car (he didn't plug it into the OBD thingy) but he said the faulty spedometer, whilst the speed sensor still worked was the result of a bad ignition coil. Now im no car guru, but what in the hell does an ignition coil have to do with a faulty spedometer?
also, i found out that my trip meter and my odometer dont work when my spedometer cuts out... so my mileage isn;t correct! ha!

When the speedo messes up, does the engine miss or stumble? The coil does control the speedo in some Accords I believe. However there should be a check engine code pointing to a faulty coil. if the coil is external it is super easy to change yourself. I haven't ever done one on an internal coil so I can't comment there.
Search HAF for threads about speedometer problems and ignition coils. Then when the mechanic tells you what he thinks the problem is, you have a good knowledge base to agree, disagree or suggest that he check something that may be related. If nothing else, the research will help you to not get frustrated by a problem that doesn't seem to make sense. As mentioned, this seems like a coil issue. Either type is not hard to replace and regardless, the cap, rotor, wires and plugs should be changed at the same time, so there is no additional work even if it is internal.
It's definately possible, there are posts on here for faulty speedo's and I believe that there are some recalls and TSB's on the topic. Try searching for your problem ...... car info would help too.

ok... so i replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing myself... with ONLY 1 screw-up... i skipped step 8 in the mechanics guide and didn't disconnect the speed sensor from the transmission! haha, so now its sitting in my glove compartment and my car is holding it current value because the miles arent increasing! haha... anyways, the orange wire (data) pulled out of the sensor itself, so that i can hood back up.. the yellow (power) broke back in the engine bay a little bit, but i can connect those again, but the black (ground) is nowhere to be seen, so what im thinking ill do is connect it to a bolt or something near the speed sensor, that way its grounded and it should work!
btw, the ignition coil is on the same curcuit as the speedometer, but it goes to the tach first (and my tach never dies or gives out) so i've concluded that its the speed sensor, and im heading to the dealer to pick up a new one!
oh, and my dad bought the OBD tester for his laptop, so we're gonna plug it in this weekend and find out what codes my car is throwing! (the check engine light is on, but all fluids are ok)
