First post, I hope that I’m posting it in the correct area. So an old bolt snapped in my rear left caliper bracket slide pin in my Honda Accord 2009 4dr V6 3.4L. I took the slide pin and the broken bolt out and have already ordered the new and correct pin (the hexagonal one not the smooth one, part number: 43235-S84-A51) and bolt, which should be here by 8am tomorrow morning. Up to this moment I did not know that each slide pin is different in the rear caliper brackets, so I was curious and took my right tire off and had a look at the rear right caliper slide pins, and lo and behold the slide pins were reversed (on left side hexagonal slide pin was on top and smooth pin was on bottom and on right side this was the other way around). All I could find so far was this image that I have attached with this post. Correct me if I’m wrong, but does this image suggest that I am in fact supposed to reverse the pins when changing the pads? Or do the pins have a set location? If so, does hexagonal pin go on top, and smooth pin go on bottom, or vice versa? Thanks for any replies, I am a little particular about these small details and don’t want a small mistake leading to a big problem.
I don't have specific information about 2009 but I had a 1998 and the pins were different from each other.
My 6th-gen shop manual shows the 2 different pins specifically being top & bottom. Thing is, the positions are reversed for sedan vs. coupe. I don't understand the reasoning for which one goes on top but I know they are different pins.
