Service engine light won't reset.
Sorry about such a lame post, but I have a problem with the Service Engine Light not resetting. Recently my light came on, I drove it a couple of weeks until I could quordinate with a buddy who has an OBD-II reader. We ran the code, I believe it was a P0457 which the reader said was a loose gas cap. The cap was checked, the code erased, but the light did not go out. Thinking I may have an issue with an air leak in the system, I rechecked for codes and found none. Still the light will not go out. Any suggestions.

Code persisting likely means the problem was not resolved. It could be a damaged gas cap (worn out or damaged oring, or cracked cap). It could be a rust pit has damaged the fuel filler neck or vent tube.
Diagnostics will be necessary to confirm the code, and pinpoint the leak.
good luck

The service engine light is not the same as the check engine light. Does the trouble code still exist if you hook it up to the OBD-II reader?
Refer to the owner's manual regarding the turning off the service engine light, if maintenance has been done. If you don't have the owner's manual, let me know and I will post that section.

Here are the pages (attached) to reset the maintenance required indicator (if that is the light you are referring to).
I believe if you register at the American Honda site, you can also download a copy of the owner's manual.

Thanks for the info. I had just changed the oil about 500 mi. before the light went on, now I have about another 1000 miles on it (1500 total). It probably needs to be reset. Thanks for all the help and input.
Much appreciated!
Makes a lot of sense, most new cars have an oil change indicator!!! Duh, sometimes I even amaze myself at how dumb I can be.
