HondaDude - What is the best way to determine if the valves are bent before you would pull the cylinder head?

If the belt is already broken, or out of time, look at post #10 at this link.

It makes it much easier to rotate the crankshaft carefully, if you remove all the plugs so no compression strokes to overcome. Easy is the operative word, very easy.

You can have the valves and piston tops remotely inspected w/ a borescope inserted through the spark plug opening. Many shops will have a borescope. It may be hard to see slightly bent valves. I had 5 bent vaves, but only one was bent enough to be readily seen w/ a borescope view.

good luck
good luck

First quick check is to remove the valve cover and look for a way way superloose rocker clearance.
Move the crank so the pistons are 1/2 way up the cylinders; then remove all the spark plugs; next turn the cam [as in valve adjustments-cam lobes at 4 'O'clock and 7 'O'clock]so that each cylinder has closed valves and use a tight fitting hose in the spark plug hole to blow in a good lung full of air.
You'll feel the pressure of good valves seating, and no pressure of bent valves.
