Should I change my transmission fluid filter? 2011 Honda Accord LX 2.4L 4 Cylinder
The A13 service suggests an oil change, tire rotation, and a transmission fluid flush.
For the first time, I've performed an oil change and a tire rotation myself, however I'm looking to have a mechanic perform the transmission fluid change.
The manual suggests a fluid flush, however my car is at 140k miles and I don't remember the last time I did anything with my transmission, so I figured a flush is not a great idea. A simple transmission fluid drain & fill would suffice. However, some sources suggest that you should also change your transmission fluid filter at some point in the 100k mile range. The difference in the cost to drain & fill the transmission compared to also including the replacement of the filter is astronomical.
Can I get away with not changing the transmission fluid filter? Is there a way I can check whether or not that would be a good idea? Some sources say to never change it at this point of the high mileage, because it might actually damage it, and some sources say you might as well change it at least once.
What do you guys think? Can I skip the filter change and just go for the drain & fill for my transmission fluid?
