Default speedo problems

Speedo works sometimes, when it doesn't,I have no lockup, hardshifts, and s light flashes. Is ther a common problem that can cause this or am I in for a head ache, trying to figure this out.The speedo is electric, not a cable.

When speedometer fails, does the cruise control and tac stop working? If it does, then you probably have to replace the speed sensor (VSS). Its on the transmission and not too difficult or expensive to replace.

No,the cruise control doesn't work either.Do you know what kind of volts the VSS should be putting out,and which of the three wires I should hook to?

I checked the S codes,I'm not sure if I'm reading them right.According to the service manual there should be 1 long blink followed by short blinks.I'm getting 1 fast, dim blink followed by short bright blinks. If I had to say what codes I'm getting,I would say 12,16,and17.Any advise?

I'd say to check the codes one more time.
Maybe get a valid code.
The speed sensor should have 400-600 ohms

what about if speedo fails but cruise and tach still work? my speedo is stuck at 20 miles per hours but will work sometimes, normally after i hit a 100mph or after a while cruising. i bought the car used and it looks like they may have had aftermarket gauges installed. ie. 2 screws missing one on speedo and one on water temp gauge. oh car is 96 accord ex.

On the 96 model you can have the codes read with a real scan tool.
You can start your own thread for free instaed of Jacking another thread and confusing the 'OP" issues.
