Speedometer
I just purchased a 90 Accord Coupe. 5 speed DX. There are a lot of mods on the car. Ignition, coil overs, sway bars, pillar guages, instrument cluster, header, full head to tail exhaust on and on.
I have a few problems that I am unable to resolve. The speedometer doesn't work. I looked around the tranny to find what drives the speedo. I had a 90 EX automatic accord and I know it had a shaft with a bearing sticking out of the trans case because it went out one time and I lost over drive and my "Sport" button light would flash. Anyway, anyone know what drives the speedo on a 1990 standard trans because I could not find the sensor?
Also, There is a sensor on the back of the intake (near firewall) The engine light was on in the car when I bought it, and high idle (around 1800 rpm). I plugged in the sensor, restarted the car. Engine light stayed off, but after a few miles came back on and at a stop the idle jumps up and down. Is that sensor considered an I.A.C. or is it another air meter of some sort? The car has a cold air intake, but I would not imagine that would affect this sensor and I believe it to be faulty, but I don't know what it is called so as to go and replace it.
Other than a few leaky gaskets, the car is quick and smooth down the road. God Bless Honda's.

RE: Speedometer
I looked this up in an online repair manual. It says the speed is detected by a vehicle speed sensor (as opposed to a speedometer cable) in the 90 Accord. It says the vehicle speed sensor on the 90 accord is bolted to the transaxle. Although it does not give an actual location on the transaxle itself. Here is the picture it shows:

RE: Speedometer
Speed sensor is located on the top of the transmission toward the back end of the engine compartment. If I remember correctly you will have to weave your arm passed the air duct assembly to the top of the transmission (it is hiding under some wires and hoses). You will see the power steering lines attached to the sensor as well. Speed sensor is about $150 from Auto Zone. I got mine at a wrecking yard for $10.
Good luck
