Default Squealing noise

Hi, I am new to the forum. After my stratus died a month ago(due to it being the faulty 2.7L that dodge came out with that should have been recalled) I started driving my sisters old 97 Accord Ex. I have to say I love the switch. I have so much fun working on the car.

All of this besides the point. When ever the I first crank of the Car or when I turn on the AC the car makes a squealing noise. This noise goes away in less than a minute. Any ideas of what is causing this noise?

Hope this is the right forum to post this in.

Thanks in Advance.

AC squealing noise is going to be a bad or loses belt, or the AC compressor clutch most likely. My 1995 Accord even with the AC off on startup has the clutch engaged for just a few seconds and makes a nose. I installed a new belt and had to tighten it more than normal to get the noise to be not often. The compressor shouldn’t be engaged on start up if the AC is off. I believe the clutch is staying magnetized on mine.

I would tighten the serpentine belt.

You loosen the pivot on the alternator (14mm), loosen the bolt to the right of the adjustment nut (12mm). Just tighten the adjustment nut (10mm) two turns, tighten the other two bolts. See if the noise goes away.

I was just about to replace pullies and belts and an A/C compressor and I simply followed your directions and fired her up and BAM! No more squeak that has been bugging me for at least a year!! Now she just purrs. Thank you!
