Squealing Noise on Startup
Guys
My son's '92 DX make a "belt" likeSquealing noise on start up and then it abates. He now claims to here it every now and then.
I've tightened both belts and that seems to help for awhile, but the noise returns after a few days/weeks. I now think that the belts are too tight, but it still squeals as much or more than ever. I don't think the alt. or AC, or PS bearings are bad.
I'm begining to suspect the Crank pulley. Has any one been through this scenario before? Is it possible the rubber in the pulley is or hasgiven up?

It's possible for the rubber in the crank pulley to be slipping. You can check by using a timing light to measure your spark timing. If the pulley is slipping, the spark timing will APPEAR to move back over the course of days or weeks.
But...
It's also possible that the belts are hard & slippery from age. This might be more likely than the pulley. Try some belt dressing. That's only temporary, but it can demonstrate that it's the belt rather than the pulley.

Well, I guess that leaves the pulley or the bearings.
Take off all the belts, see whether you can spin the pulley against it's hub.
Use something like a sharpie marker or a scribe to put a mark across the rubber, from thehubout to the pulley. Over time, that mark will move around. Or not...
