Default Starter/ignition problem?

Hi all! My sister's 99 4cyl Accord just went nuts.

My dad drove it from Sacramento to Socal and along the way, all the electronics and motor just completely shut off and my dad cruised for a little bit. He said that the starter was activated and turning the motor constantly during that craziness. Luckily my dad worked it somehow and they got to LA county without anymore issues.

so now, whenever we put in the key (not even about to turn on the engine), the starter kicks in and wants to turn on the engine. The starter will only stop if we actually turn on the engine. So weird. Something's up with the electricals.

Can you guys help me out? I think that's all the info i can give you guys. I did a quick search but I dont see anyone having the same issue. I guess this is unique.

An ignition switch could do that. I looked up recalls for a 99 Accord and they show these three below. Call the Honda dealer and see if these apply to your vehicle. I would be concerned about the condition of the starter after this issue.

05-007 MAR 05 Recall - Shift Interlock Repair
03-088 APR 04 Recall - Ignition Switch Key Interlock Defect
02-031 SEP 02 Recall - Ignition Switch Replacement
