Default starting

hi my name is brian and im new so i just have a question. So i have an 87 accord and when i start it i have to hap the gas or it will keep turning over does any one have any ideas wat i can do ??? by the way its got a carb

You mean tap on the gas pedal? Seems like that's not unusual for carburators. Not sure I understand exactly what it's doing.

Ya I was talking about the gas pedal. So when I'm turning it over it won't fire till I tap the gas once is that normal for a carbarated engine . I normaly work with fuel injection

Its an 87 - that sounds fine to me.

Yeah, I grew up in the dark ages with carburators (just didn't own Hondas). You always had to pump the gas pedal once so the accelerator pump squirted a bit of fuel down into the manifold.

When fuel injection came along, suddenly the instructions were very strange: "turn the key without stepping on the accelerator pedal".
