Default strange hunting or surge issue

I have a 94 Accord EX and it like to hunt or surge while not in gear and i dont know why. Can anyone tell me what this is or how I can fix it? The car while in P or N wil rev from 700 to about 1500 nonstop until i put it in gear. It dont do it all the time but sometimes (at least once a day).

Search FITV or surging idle. That valve allows air to enter the intake until the car warms up to operating temperature. Over time, the valve can become loose. Just tighten it until it is snug.

Also air in the coolant system can cause this problem. When engine is cold, remove radiator cap, loosen bleeder valve on top of the thermostat housing. Coolant should flow out as a steady stream and not spit out air. Allow any air to bleed out of there and top off the radiator.

Well I recently hit a dear and had to replace th radiator. It did it before that though that so I really dont think it would be the coolent system. Ill check the FITV. thanks

Vacuum leaks can also contribute to this; check & fix them.

Search for something about setting the "BASE" idle & go thru that procedure too.

Talking

I have to agree with the earlier post about air in the coolant. Last year I replaced my engine and had a little pocket of air in the coolant lines at the throttle body. After struggling with the issue for a while I began tapping on the drivers side of the plenum. This vibration began to alter the idle. After looking into this, I had determined that air in the throttle body coolant hoses was causing the issue.
