Default throttle body clean, now check engine light

I've got a 2007 2.4. I cleaned the throttle body with the appropriate cleaner but now I'm getting a check engine light. Here's what I did. With engine off, I disconnected the airbox from the car, unplugged the mass air sensor, disconnected the other two hoses that attach to air intake and removed it from the car. With the key turned to "on" (not running) I had my wife press the accelerator pedal to open the plate. I sprayed a small amount of cleaner in throttle body and wiped it clean. Reassembled everything and did the relearn procedure. It idles fine but the check engine light is on. Now what?

Go over your work to make sure you got everything reassembled properly.

I'd check the code. If you don't have a code reader, stop by a parts store. They usually do it as a free service.

Go to a parts store to read the actual error code. Give us the actual code number, like P1234. Sometimes the guy's explanation can get a bit creative. You want to rule out something completely unrelated that just happened to screw up at the same time.

It might be left over from when you turned on the key with stuff disconnected. By 2007 they were using non-volatile memory, and disconnecting the battery doesn't erase the errors. The light might turn off after several days of driving if you can't get someone with a scanner to actually clear the code.

Thanks for the help. After driving a few miles the light went out.

If you disconnected the connector to the throttle body, it can be confusing how to reconnect. The connector latch must be fully opened to engage/connect, and turned 90 degrees to latch securely. I had similar problem on 03 MDX when I removed throttle body to clean and failed to properly latch connector.

good luck

Since he turned the key ON with the MAF sensor unplugged, that threw the code in the first place. Doesn't matter that he didn't start the engine.

The code cleared itself after a bit of driving - the PCM figured out that the MAF sensor was now plugged in & working again.

When I cleaned my throttle body, it set off the check engine light and the car would idle up and down for a few days. It eventually settled down. I also reset the computer and all was fine.

Remember the original poster has a 2007. I think it was beginning in 2003 that they started using non-volatile memory so pulling the battery cables doesn't erase the error codes.
