This question comes up fairly frequently. What were you told by the seller? Are there any records of previous service. If yes, you might inquire w/ that facility to see if TB service has been performed.

I tried similar inquiries after I was told by seller that TB had been replaced on a Acura 2.5 TL. I was never able to confirm anything, and decided to perform the TB service. Liklihood is you will be in same position.

I'm not aware of any way to inspect a belt and tell when installed or how many miles accumulated. Old belts I've removed didn't look much different from the new replacement belts.

good luck

Your safest bet is to just replace it if you can't prove when it was last done.

Sometimes you can till if its newer by if you can still read the writing on it, as it normally wears off with age.

Inspection isn't very reliable. I've taken off the belt after 100k miles & found it looking good.
