Default timing belt help!

1997 2.2L 5 speed
just had the timing belt done and it whines. Its gotten progressively worse and now it seems to have levelled off at the pitch its at now. Does a timing belt have to break in? If not what could the problems be?

thanks

Might have been overtightened? The belt will stretch a little bit, and polish itself up against the pulleys. But that kinda depends on the sound. I can't hear it from here...

Did you do the timing belt, or did you pay to have a mechanic do it?

The timing belt should not make any noise.

You may want to remove the PS belt and the serpentine belt, then start the engine to verify the noise is coming from the TB.

One thing that can be easily overlooked is the tension pulley needs to slip over a pivot. TexasHonda posted a thread about this in the DIY section.

I fully agree that it will be the pulley..I've seen it every day for the last 22 years..

I did not do it myself, I brought it to a gentleman who has been working on cars out if his garage for 10+ years now. I know he has done numerous timing belts as well. I brought the car back and he said that harmonic balancer bearing needed to be replaced so he did. Then he said with the cover off it doesn't make any noise, but with it on it does.
