timing belt repair
I'd inspect all of the seals in the timing area - oil pump o-ring, crank, balance shaft, ect. Also the tensioner/idler. You didn't say anything about the water pump, you'll be looking right at it might as well - it is part of the "timing belt job" IMHO.
There are several gaskets that will be replaced. There is an o-ring on the dist where it "seats" to the head, be sure to replace it.

I already have all the parts for the timing belt job, including the water pump.

sorry, don't know what it is.
Tw'er me, I wouldn't rely on same mechanic friend on future issues relating to motor internals.
There are only a few engines that can take a timing belt break and not be damaged, and
these few are called non-interference engines. Accord isn't on that list.

And, that mechanic isn't on my list of people to contact next time I have a problem! lol
I ended up replacing the head with a remanufactored one and doing all the work basically by myself.
It was a long drawn out process. Between taking the cylinder head off, waiting for parts, replacing the head, numerous 2 hour round trips from my house to where the car broke down, and only being able to work on it on weekends, I've been without my car for almost 2 months! I finally have it running. I haven't driven very far and I'm still having some minor issues (fixed an antifreeze leak today and something is going on with the power steering pump), but it's running and driveable!
I couldn't have done this job without using the resources at alldatadiy.com. I heartily recommend getting a subscription at alldata, it gave me step by step directions on removing the head.
I also couldn't have done this job without the help of many members here. My heartfelt thanks to all of you for all your help!

I don't believe that's true. If the timing belt breaks, pistons will definitely hit valves.
The F series "ARE" interference engines.
EDIT: But again the main thing here is that the OP has fixed their car and is back on the road - should make you feel good that "yes, I was able to do that"
