What speed is it doing it at? My 95 locked the torque converter at 65 mph and had a 500rpm drop like you said. Had the same concern and that's what I was told by the Honda tech...

i would say go with the OE fluid from the dealer, the tranny does have an overdrive "gear", I have the same one, and it does change up into overdrive when I depress the throttle, but only at moderate speeds (60-90km/h) over this once in overdrive, unless it reaches a strain, it will remain in overdrive . But def giv'er some new fluid, could help.

i checked the throttle cable adjustment it was good still havent changed the fluid yet as far as the speed it doesnt matter 50 to 80 mph or just anytime in 4th gear. would the fluid really cause a problem like this? and i read another thread where someone said that they had this problem and that it was a temperature sensor going bad but there are several temp sensors so i'm not sure i ohmed one of them and it seemed good i think there is one on the side of the block hidden by the distributer kind of a pain to get to

Under the distributor...
The sender with one wire is for the dashboard temperature gauge.

The sensor with a 2-wire clip is for the ECU, and probably that's the one that can cause tranny to unlock the torque converter?? I don't remember the tranny having it's OWN temperature sensor, but I don't really know automatics too well.

ok thanks and i was thinking about it some more while driving this evening and it seems like it could be the linkage by the way it acts but i checked it an it was in sync but what position does the lever need to be in? i,m talking about the lever at the tranny that the cable hooks to because i can raise it and lower it by adjusting. if the temp sensor was going bad wouldn't it just do it some of the time cause this is happening all of the time or if it can be that sensor causing the problem maybe its just shot guess i need to pull it out and test it
