TRANNY problems

RE: TRANNY problems
Sorry to say but the 98-02 accord transmissions are known to have problems. Take it to the dealer and see if you're still covered by the extended warranty on the transmission. I think it was 7yrs/100k miles.

RE: TRANNY problems
sounds like a broken brake switch to me. Go to the DIY section and click on "Cannot get out of park... diagnose". Its on the first page. it is most likely NOT a transmission issue, as the shift lock mechanism is not located in or controlled by the transmission.

x2 ...... try the horn first. If it doesn't work it's a fuse. If it does, jump the wires for the brake switch to see if that's the problem. To the DIY section you go!!!!

RE: TRANNY problems
1998 Accord V6
I replaced the fuse and was able to shift normally. However, I did get the check Engine light after restarting the vehicle, read the code as P1705. Do I have bigger problems on the horizon? Reset the code and light is off, car seems to be working fine.

RE: TRANNY problems
p1705 = problem in the a/t range switch. this can be caused by a sticking fuel main relay or an aftermarket device (remote start or alarm) tied into the starter cut relay. if you have nothing like that installed, clear the code as you did and move the shifter through the entire gear range(P R N D D3 D2 D1) slowly, very slowly, fast, jerkily - you get the idea. wait for it to recode. if it does replaced the fuel main relay(it's cheaper) and if it recodes again, replace the a/t range switch.
it's up to you which order you want to replace them in. trying to get an acting up a/t range switch to recode can be difficult. you can just wait until it gets so bad it recodes very easily. [8D]
